Banknote Security Features

  1. Watermark — a portrait and/or ornamental design, visible when held to light in the watermark field.
  2. Security thread — a metallized thread that partially surfaces (windowed thread).
  3. Microprinting — fine text, readable only with a magnifying glass, spread across the note.
  4. Latent (kipp-effect) image — the letters «РР» appear when the note is tilted at an acute angle.
  5. Colour-shifting ink — used on the redesigned 1,000 and 5,000 ruble notes, changes colour when tilted.
  6. Raised (tactile) elements for people with visual impairments.
  7. UV and IR luminescence of the serial number and selected design elements.
